My last Post?

Well, the time has finally come where I can no longer write in a blog entitled "Diabetes in the Big City," for I no longer am living with Diabetes in the "Big City." Where I am at no, no longer can count as a big city.

It was weird being back home, even it it was for a short while. I couldn't just get up and head to Times Square, there were no subways to catch, and when I looked up, I saw the sky, not skyscrapers. I also had to remember how to drive again.

Good ole-hometown.

It seems that the summer has been a dream. It was such an amazing experience, that sometimes I feel it must not have happened because it was too good to be true.

Back to Life on the Farm

For sure though, I will never forget my summer in NYC. I also know that if I ever had to move back, or visit, I could do it in a heartbeat. Well..maybe two heartbeats. ;)

Now the big question I am receiving from everyone, is if I will be moving to NYC after graduation. For me to move to the Big City, would be influenced of many factors. If I received a job at JDRF, then YES, I would do it, but it would be another big life adjustment. We will just have to wait  and see what this year has in store for me. You never know, another opportunity might appear, and I leave it in God's hands.

I am officially moved back into my campus apartment. I start classes tomorrow, and it's back to doing harder work than when I was at work.

I'm excited for the Students with Diabetes year, and have already met with my fellow diabetesbuddy to start planning, sort of.

New Planner, New Year!

I've been busy with Phi Sigma Sigma, and very excited for what this year will have to offer.

On a  diabetes note, I have lost my good blood sugars. (insert grumpy face). In NYC, I had a day to day system, that barely ever changed. It was easy to keep track, and make changes to my diabetes regiment. Here, at school, I'm already messed up. Every day I have different classes, different times, and I'm already not going to sleep early enough. I hope to make this semester a much better one though in terms of diabetes management. I can't have another semester like last year, (which was my worst ever, in terms of diabetes).

So excited that our campus cafeteria has Crystal Light now!

I just wanted to say that I have enjoyed sharing my experiences with all of you. I hope you enjoyed reading them in return. I am also going to mention that I plan to continue writing a blog about my day to day experiences on living with diabetes, college, greek life, and my plans for after graduation. My Last Days in NYC

I also spent the last night before moving out with my roommate and some of the other guys from our apartment building. We saw a movie, had a few beverages, and walked around Times Square. 

My last days in NYC involved my family who had come to visit me, and to take me "home."

My Last Days at Work

The last few days of work were very busy.

I continued to update the twitter feeds, while also finishing up on all the various projects that I had been provided over the course of the summer.

My main purpose was to finish the main project, which was the goal/aim for the entire summer, about some new marketing strategies for JDRF. I had meetings every day to continue planning, developing, and sharing these new ideas, thoughts, and opinions. The days flew by. I wish they hadn't flown so fast though, just because it was my last week, and I didn't want it to end.

AADE Conference

On Thursday August 8th, as part of Students with Diabetes, I headed to Philadelphia to attend the American Association of Diabetes Educators Conference.

After taking my first train and taxi ride, I got to the conference, and I was able to share my experiences as an Intern at the Students with Diabetes exhibit table, which was, ironically, right next to the JDRF table.

I really enjoyed "bragging," promoting, and selling Students with Diabetes to various Diabetes Educators, and other exhibitors alike.

I also enjoyed spending the day with my favorite Students with Diabetes People! (Nicole, John, Stephanie, and Martin!)

I also was able to walk around to the other exhibitor booths as well.

It is moments like this that I am really able to see how big the diabetes community really is. It astounds me, and shows that there are millions of opportunities for me to be able to stay within the diabetes field after graduation.

This conference was an amazing experience, and I'm very glad that I was able to be a part of it.

Review of the past year, in SWD terms!

I didn't know I had this, but I found it today on the computer. If you can't tell, that is me, holding a giant envelope, addressed to Students With Diabetes, with two letters of recommendation, my resume, my application, official transcripts, my hopes, and my dreams.

February 4th, 2013 I  walked across campus in the snow, to the Mail Room, with this envelope in hand.
 
On February 12th, I was informed my application had been received.

On March 5th, I received the email stating I was an Intern Finalist.

I had an Interview with JDRF in New York

I had an Interview with Sanofi in New Jersey

On April 17th, I was informed that I was chosen as an Intern at JDRF's National Marketing/Communications Office in New York.

On June 10th, I walked through the doors at 26 Broadway for my first day of work.

On August 9th, I left through those very same doors to end one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

(Yes there are two star wars posters on my walls, I'm a nerd)

Diabetes and Work Update!

So, since the title of this blog is called Diabetes in the City, I figured I should give you all a diabetes update!


I have come to realize that my diabetes is actually behaving quite nicely as of late. No outrageous Highs, but a few more lows than normal. But for the most part, I've stayed realititvely normal.

Upon looking at my recent averages, per month, hours, and days, and comparing them to an A1C chart, it is estimated that I have an A1C at 6.5! This is great news for me, since all my A1C's have been higher than this.

To double check my results, I plan to purchase an at home A1C kit. I'm not sure the accuracies of these products, but having a bit more information than my own calculations never hurt anyone!

At work, I have been keeping quite busy. I've been working on the final touches to come up with a document about various projects and ideas that JDRF can start to look at for some redefining marketing purposes. The days are going by so fast, and this Friday is my last day, and includes a formal presentation with the other office intern, of our ideas.

It is very exciting work, busy, and I wish that I could continue working on these projects, and maybe se a few of them through all the way! It will be cool, to see, in 6 months from now, what comes out of JDRF!!!


My Internship Experience has been amazing!

Sunday, one of the best days of my life..

And I'm not exaggerating with that title one bit!!!

Sunday, after the late night on saturday, I slept in as much as I could, and then got ready to head to 42nd Street for a BROADWAY SHOW!

I SAW FIRST DATE!

It was only $35!

It was hilarious!

It was soooooo good!

and...IT HAD ZACHARY LEVI IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Zachary Levi is from the T.V. show from NBC called Chuck. He also did the voice of Flynn Ryder in Disney's Tangled. He is also in the upcoming movie Thor 2.

HE IS AMAZING!

Cute, down to earth, funny, and when he was signing autographs he danced.

I wore my new Team Bartowski (Zach's character on Chuck), t-shirt, that I had bought at the NBC store the day before.

He called me Team Bartowski, when it was my turn to get my picture taken. He said he really liked my shirt!

After grabbing some Subway, we made our way to Central Park! (I say we, we means my good friend, and fellow Type 1 Diabetic and Students with Diabetes Intern, Danica!)

We just walked around central park, talking, and searching out various sculptures. We spent many hours in the park, and it was perfect weather to just take a stroll.
